The latest issue of the Journal of Becket Studies is now available. A special issue, guest-edited by Georgina Nugent, it seeks to add to what it describes as the ‘increasingly insistent reassessment of the role of women within and without of Beckett’s œuvre, a movement spearheaded by Linda Ben-Zvi and Mary Bryden’s ground-breaking respective studies Women in Beckett: Performance and Critical Perspectives (1990) and Women in Samuel Beckett’s Prose and Drama: Her Own Other (1993)’.

Contributions from Pascale Sardin, Julie Bates, Linda Ben-Zvi, Matthijs Engelberts, Marek Kędzierski and from Nugent herself address the impact of women such as Barbara Bray, Marguerite Duras, Louise Bourgeois, Djuna Barnes and Maria Irene Fornes on Beckett’s work and on its reception. The volume will undoubtedly contribute to the ever-broadening discussion on the crucial role played by women within Beckett’s work and in his wider writing environment.
